Turning A Corner
I went to bed feeling pretty damn proud of myself.
After supper, I wanted a piece of cake. Not just a little craving either... it was LOUD.
I finally convinced myself to do my "3 Bite Rule." Take three bites, enjoy them, then throw the rest away.
As I stood up to go get it, I got mad.
WTF, JaSi?! Leave the damn cake and get up and MOVE!
So I dusted off the Wii.
I played five games of tennis against myself, bowled a game, and was ready to call it quits.
Then I remembered my old favorite workout...
Gold's Gym Cardio Boxing.
I slipped the game in just to see if it had a beginner mode.
It did.
Well... then I had to find out if I still had it.
I'm proud to say I completed a 13-minute beginner workout and earned my daily Punch Stamp.
Now, that may not sound like much to some people, but for me?
Five games of tennis, a game of bowling, and 13 minutes of boxing is more exercise than this body has seen in a hot minute.
I worked out for an hour.
An hour!
That is HUGE progress for me.
Then I saw that little Punch Stamp on the calendar.
Something clicked.
I decided I want one every single day for the rest of July.
I also finally honored the commitment I made to myself to be in bed by 9:00 p.m. and up at 5:00 a.m.
Was it easy?
Hell no.
I tossed and turned for what felt like forever, and when that alarm went off at 5:00 this morning... let's just say my first response wasn't fit for Facebook.
But...
I got up.
I made my coffee.
And before I even started today's workout, I sat down to write this.
Today starts with a Punch Stamp.
Not because I have to.
Because I want to.
Because every Punch Stamp is another promise kept to myself.
And I already know something about myself...
When I start my morning with movement, it changes the entire direction of my day. It makes it easier to make better choices. It makes it harder to say yes to the cake.
Last night wasn't just a workout.
It was a turning point.
I'm ready to renew my commitment to myself and my health.
One Punch Stamp at a time.
A Thought to Leave You With:
Big changes rarely begin with giant moments.
Most of the time they begin with one small decision:
"Instead of this... I'm going to do that."
One healthier meal.
One short walk.
One workout.
One promise kept.
Those little decisions have a way of changing everything.
Journal Prompts
What is one habit or choice I can replace instead of simply trying to resist it?
When have I surprised myself by doing something I didn't think I could?
What small promise can I make to myself today that my future self will thank me for?
