Routine as Self-Care

Creating routine that supports my mind, body, and soul

Creating routine that supports my mind, body, and soul

Routine is often overlooked, yet it is one of the most powerful tools we have. Routine creates consistency, and consistency reinforces routine. They work together, but they are not the same. When paired intentionally, they begin to shift daily habits and create new neural pathways in the brain—helping us grow, evolve, and elevate.

They say it takes about 90 days for a habit to truly stick. That’s three months of showing up with consistent routine. Morning blogging is the habit I am intentionally building—one I want to live on autopilot. Wake up. Shower. Coffee. Sit down and write before the kids arrive. Simple. Grounded. Consistent.

I have made a commitment to myself to honor this routine—even on the days I’m heading to Omaha for supplies, and even on the mornings when my grandkids spend the night and need everything the moment our feet hit the floor.

To support this new rhythm, I’m brainstorming ways to make mornings flow more smoothly. Pancakes prepped and ready in the freezer. A fruit tray made the night before. Overnight oats. Or an easy oatmeal recipe in the Instant Pot while I shower and make coffee. I’ll continue looking up simple, kid-friendly meals and gathering ideas that support my routine when the kids are here.

At the same time, I don’t want to become too rigid—that’s counterproductive. I need to remember that there will be days when blogging doesn’t happen first thing in the morning, and that’s okay. What matters is honoring the commitment, even if it happens later in the day. Flow matters just as much as structure.

This morning, I didn’t give myself enough time, and the kids will be walking through the door any second. Tonight, I’ll head to bed at 9:30 and wake up at 5:30, allowing myself the space to move through this process without rushing.

Go with the flow. Practice consistency. Create supportive routines. And continue to elevate—Mind, Body, and Soul.
