Reset
Sometimes We Don't Even Realize We're Already Resetting
Talking with my health coach this morning, it dawned on me that I have been slowly moving into my reset without even realizing it.
Yesterday was a horrible day at daycare. The kids were absolutely wound up, the energy was off, and they just wouldn't listen unless I yelled... and I hate yelling. I think every child sat in time out at least once yesterday.
Needless to say, by nap time, I was completely fried.
I had already taken Monday off because I spent Sunday with the stomach flu and Monday with a migraine, so coming into this week already felt like an uphill battle. Having the kids act up all day just pushed me even further over the edge.
By the time my son came to pick up my granddaughter that evening, I had absolutely nothing left.
He encouraged me to go swimming or do some kind of exercise because he knew it would help with my stress. Honestly, I wanted to ignore him. I just wanted to veg out on the couch and try to unwind.
Instead, I made supper. Nothing fancy. A Kevin's Natural Foods Chicken Tikka Masala meal with some lightly boiled frozen cauliflower.
Was it perfect? No.
Was it better than another frozen pizza? Absolutely.
After supper, I looked at the clock and realized it was only 6:15. I thought, You know what... Caedron is right. I'll at least go see if the new fountain cooled the pool down.
The minute I stepped into the water, I knew I had made the right decision.
The fountain had cooled the water beautifully, and my swim was absolutely AMAZING.
I had the pool completely to myself, something I didn't realize I needed until afterward.
I spent the first ten minutes skimming bugs and leaves before starting my laps. Between laps, I floated on my back and stared at the sky, letting all the random thoughts in my head come and go.
Eventually...
They stopped.
For the first time in what feels like forever, my mind became still.
It wasn't just exercise.
It was a reset.
As I started swimming laps again, I found myself thinking about winter and how important this feeling has become. I don't want to lose it when pool season ends. Somehow, I need to make swimming work year-round, even if that means joining the Lied Center.
That's when another realization hit me.
I've been beating myself up because I feel like I'm struggling to get back on track with my diabetes.
But when I step back and really look at my life...
I'm actually doing better than I give myself credit for.
My sleep is finally consistent.
I'm moving my body almost every day.
The biggest battle left is my food.
If I can get that piece under control, I truly believe I can win this fight.
And honestly, that brings me to another hard truth.
Food prices are unbelievable right now. Between rising costs, parasite concerns with produce, E. coli recalls with eggs, and everything else happening in our food supply, eating well isn't as simple—or as affordable—as it should be.
Then there's the shop.
I've poured every extra penny into getting Mind Body Soul stocked, organized, and filled with products I truly believe in.
In the last 30 days, I've had around $60 in sales and only one customer come in to browse.
That's hard.
Being in a residential area makes it more challenging, and even though I feel like I'm constantly advertising, getting people through the door has been difficult.
So I've made a hard decision.
I'm done financially pouring money into new inventory for now.
I have one more ingredient I need to buy, but after that, everything new can wait.
The shelves will be stocked with what ingredients I have here and available now.
Fall and winter are coming, and I truly believe business will pick up then.
For now...
It's time to let the shop breathe.
Instead of investing every extra dollar into products, I'm choosing to invest in myself.
My money needs to support my diabetes, healthy groceries, and building a lifestyle that allows me to feel good again.
The shop isn't failing.
It's simply time for it to stand on its own while I rebuild my health.
Maybe that's what a reset really is.
Not throwing everything away and starting over.
Just shifting your energy back toward what needs you most.
And right now...
That's me.
A Little Reminder
Sometimes we think we're failing because we're looking at the one area that still feels hard.
Take a step back.
Look at the progress you've already made.
Maybe you're sleeping better.
Maybe you're moving more.
Maybe you're setting healthier boundaries.
Maybe you're finally asking for help.
Healing rarely happens all at once. It happens through dozens of small choices that quietly add up until one day you realize... you've already started becoming the person you were hoping to be.
Give yourself credit for every step forward, even the small ones.
