Slow Down, Be Present, Live Intentionally

This morning began in full motion. The grandkids spent the night, so there was no slow entry into the day. Coffee had to wait. Pancakes came first. Little voices and busy feet filled every corner of the house all at once. It wasn’t until 10 a.m. that I finally found a moment to sit down and focus on me for a few quiet minutes.

I briefly considered driving to Omaha to restock ingredients for a new batch of Fire Cider—especially since I’m sold out and it takes two months to make. But I realized that waiting one more week won’t truly change the bigger picture. Sometimes, urgency is more about pressure than necessity.

Instead, I balanced the bank account, reviewed the budget, poured another cup of coffee, turned on the sauna, and settled in to write my Sunday blog. Before anything else, I knew I needed to calm my nervous system if I wanted the rest of the day to feel the way I envision it. I could feel the tension sitting heavy in my neck and shoulders.

Today feels like a good day for a drive out to Nodaway. Maybe a short walk in nature. Maybe bringing my tablet along to journal. I think what I need most is a little distance—from the house, from the endless mental to-do list that never seems to quiet itself when I’m here.

I hardly leave. I work from home, and now my shop is here too. There are times my van doesn’t move for ten days or more. I know I need to make time to step outside my routine and into nature—even when it’s cold.

My mind is always full of projects: home projects, daycare projects, Mind Body Soul projects. But today, there’s a new project at the center of it all—ME. I need to slow down, take a breath, and let my soul find some peace.

So today is about moving with myself in mind. If that means making a sugar scrub, a batch of soap, or pouring a candle, that’s what I’ll do. If it means spending time in nature, that’s what I’ll do. If it means an afternoon nap, that’s what I’ll do. Today, I’m letting my soul lead.

What’s on your agenda today?
